BREAST LIFT & AUGMENTATION

What is breast lift & augmentation?

It is a combined procedure required when the breast is small and there is excess skin, meaning that placing an implant of a specific size to restore the desired volume is not enough to adequately fill it.

The procedure simultaneously addresses two main issues: sagging (ptosis) and low breast volume. It combines two surgeries performed during the same operation, achieving a harmonious, firm, and fuller breast.

The need for breast lift & augmentation usually arises after pregnancies, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss, conditions that lead to volume loss and reduced firmness. Especially when the natural breast is small and sagging, this combined technique allows both enhancement and lifting.

Choosing this approach avoids the need for a second surgery in the future and requires significant expertise from the plastic surgeon.

What is the procedure for breast lift & augmentation?

The breast lift & augmentation procedure combines two separate surgical actions at the same time:

• Breast Lift (Mastopexy): Involves removal of excess loose skin, repositioning of the nipple and areola to a higher, anatomically correct position, and reshaping of the internal breast tissue to create a firmer contour.
• Augmentation: Performed with the simultaneous placement of silicone implants to increase size and restore lost volume.

What are the advantages of combined breast lift & augmentation?

This combined procedure offers multiple benefits, providing a complete aesthetic result:

• Improvement of both breast shape and volume with a single procedure.
• Restoration of a youthful breast contour.
• Replenishment of volume in the upper pole of the breast, which often becomes “empty” after pregnancy or weight loss.
• Correction of sagging and skin laxity.
• Avoidance of a second surgery for shape/volume correction in the future.
• Ability to correct breast asymmetry.
• Long-lasting aesthetic result.

Who is the ideal candidate for breast lift & augmentation?

The procedure is indicated for women who:

• Have sagging breasts (Grade 1, 2, or 3 ptosis, or pseudoptosis), with the nipple at or below the inframammary fold.
• Have reduced breast volume, usually due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight fluctuations.
• Desire simultaneous improvement of both shape and size.
• Are over 18 years old and have realistic expectations.
• Do not plan an immediate pregnancy.

What is the appropriate age for breast lift & augmentation?

The only requirement is being over 18 years old. Beyond that, there is no strict age limit, as long as the woman presents breast sagging and is medically suitable.

However, it is recommended that the procedure be performed after completing childbearing, as future pregnancies and breastfeeding can significantly affect the appearance and alter the results.

How does breast lift & augmentation affect breastfeeding ability?

Breast lift & augmentation does not affect the ability to breastfeed. Modern techniques ensure that:

• The mammary glands are not damaged.
• The milk ducts remain intact.
• The implants are biocompatible and do not affect breast milk composition.

Dr. Floros applies techniques that preserve the breastfeeding mechanism and protect the mammary glands.

What should I know about recovery after breast lift & augmentation?

Recovery after the combined procedure is generally mild and well tolerated:

• Pain: Mild discomfort or pressure during the first days is normal and can be effectively managed with common painkillers.
• Clinic stay: Usually, the patient stays overnight for monitoring. However, with some modern techniques, discharge on the same day is possible.
• Return to work: Office work is possible after a few days (7–10 days). For more physically demanding jobs, an additional 1–2 weeks of recovery is recommended.
• Full recovery: Complete recovery occurs in about one month, while final results are fully established in 3–6 months.

When is the final result visible?

A very good initial result is visible immediately after surgery. However, the breasts will initially be swollen and the implants may appear higher:

• Good result: After about one month, once swelling subsides.
• Final result: The final shape, position, and feel of the breasts are fully achieved within 3 to 6 months.

Are there possible complications?

Breast lift & augmentation is considered a safe and predictable procedure when performed by a specialized plastic surgeon. The rate of serious complications is very low. Possible risks include:

• Mild inflammation or irritation at the incision site.
• Hematoma.
• Temporary changes in nipple sensitivity, which usually resolve.
• Rare occurrence of capsular contracture (tightening of tissue around the implant), which may require corrective treatment.

Modern techniques and proper pre- and post-operative care minimize these risks.
