LIPOSUCTION (LIPOSCULPTURE)

Liposuction (liposculpture) is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures worldwide, designed to address stubborn localized fat that does not respond to strict dieting or intensive exercise. It is not a weight-loss method, but a procedure for permanent body contouring.

What exactly is Liposuction (Liposculpture) and what is the main difference between them?

Liposuction (liposculpture) is the process of removing locally accumulated fat through suction. The essential difference lies in their philosophy:

• Liposuction: Focuses on the simple removal of fat from a specific area (e.g. abdomen).
• Liposculpture: Aims at overall body sculpting and creating a more athletic or feminine contour, often using fat transfer techniques (fat from one area is used to add volume to another, e.g. buttocks – Brazilian Butt Lift).

We mainly apply the philosophy of liposculpture to achieve a natural and balanced result.

Who is the ideal candidate for Liposuction (Liposculpture)?

The ideal candidate is someone who:

• Has a normal or near-normal body weight (BMI close to normal).
• Has localized fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise.
• Has good skin elasticity, which is crucial for proper skin retraction after fat removal.
• Has realistic expectations.
• Is in good overall health.

On which areas of the body can Liposuction (Liposculpture) be applied?

Liposuction (liposculpture) can be applied to almost any area with excess fat:

• Abdomen & flanks (love handles)
• Thighs (inner, outer – “saddlebags”, front)
• Buttocks & banana roll
• Back
• Arms
• Chin (double chin) and neck
• Male chest (gynecomastia)
• Knees & calves

How is the Liposuction (Liposculpture) procedure performed?

The procedure performed by Dr. Floros usually includes the following stages:

• Anesthesia: Local anesthesia with sedation for small to medium areas, or general anesthesia for multiple areas or large-volume fat removal (mega liposuction).

• Tumescent solution: Before fat removal, a special solution (saline with analgesic and vasoconstrictive agents) is injected. This minimizes blood loss, reduces postoperative swelling, and protects the skin from irregularities.

• Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL): Very fine microcannulas (1.8–2 mm in diameter) that vibrate automatically are used. Thousands of pulsating movements per minute allow the cannula to glide easily through fatty tissue with minimal resistance.

• Targeted sculpting: The PAL technique provides superior control and precision, making it ideal even for fibrous areas such as the waist (love handles) and back (bra fat).

• Closure & recovery: After fat removal, the tiny incisions are closed with fine sutures. A special compression garment is immediately applied to help the skin adhere properly and accelerate healing.

What are the advantages of Liposuction (Liposculpture)?

The main advantages include:

• Permanent fat cell removal: Once removed, fat cells do not regenerate in the same area.
• Immediate contour improvement: Dramatic enhancement of body shape and proportions.
• Boost in confidence: Improved appearance and better clothing fit.
• Safe procedure: When performed by an experienced and specialized plastic surgeon, complications are rare.

What is recovery like after Liposuction (Liposculpture)?

Recovery is generally quick but requires following medical instructions:

• Hospital stay: Usually, patients return home the same or the next day.
• Compression garment: Mandatory for 3–6 weeks to reduce swelling and ensure proper skin tightening.

• Return to activities:
• Light activities / office work: After 2–3 days.
• Driving: After about 2 weeks.
• Intense exercise / weightlifting: After about 4 weeks (up to 1 month).
• Common effects: Bruising and swelling are normal and gradually subside.

How long does it take to see the final result of Liposuction (Liposculpture)?

Recovery is generally quick but requires adherence to medical guidelines:

• Hospital stay: Usually same-day or next-day discharge.
• Compression garment: Required for 3–6 weeks for optimal results.
• Return to activities:
• Light activities / office work: After 2–3 days.
• Driving: After about 2 weeks.
• Intense exercise / weightlifting: After about 4 weeks (up to 1 month).
• Common effects: Bruising and swelling are normal and gradually subside.

The final result becomes progressively visible as swelling decreases over the following months.

Are there risks or side effects with Liposuction (Liposculpture)?

Liposuction is a safe and well-established procedure when performed under proper surgical standards. As with any surgery, there are rare risks:

• Common side effects: Swelling, bruising, temporary numbness.
• Rare complications: Infection, poor healing, changes in skin sensation, contour irregularities, thrombosis.
